Opening Ceremony of WUC Floorball 2016

Next Tuesday, July 19, starts the biggest university event of Floorball in Porto. Under the aegis of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), takes place the 7th World University Floorball Championship, organized by University of Porto and Federação Académica do Porto, coordinated by Portugal Academic Sports Federation (FADU).

All the 16 teams will march in the Opening Ceremony at Avenida dos Aliados, right in the centre of City of Porto, in front of Porto City Hall.

The expectations are high for this year. “Floorball is not well known sport in Portugal and that was our challenge”, explain Daniel Freitas, “we are aware of its development potential and we bet on the dissemination and promotion of Floorball throughout the country”, added the OC president.

Coming from all over the world, the 400 participants will be received by our Organizing and Executive Committee and by our 100 volunteers, that are truly excited with this sport event, “we want to bring a demonstration of the quality of this sport to our public”, said Daniel.

The competition takes place in the University Stadium and the Faculty of Sport of University of Porto and counts with the participation of Portugal male team.

All the delegations will be accommodated at University Residence Novais Barbosa and Campo Alegre, booth nearby University Stadium.

Transports at WUC Floorball 2016

Between the arrivals and departures of all the 400 participants, the Organising Committee of WUC Floorball 2016 will provide two kinds of transportation.

First, when you arrive to Porto International Airport (Francisco Sá Carneiro) we will assure a special shuttle to take you to the residence.

Then, during the competition, there will be a bus line and a shuttle line.

The bus line will serve the delegations between the competition/training periods, and will take the participants to there the games and back to the residences.

The shuttle line aims to serve the participants to be able to watch the other team’s games and to visit the town.

The OC will also provide a transportation system for FISU delegates, VIP and special guests.

The WUC Floorball 2016 is presented to the Public

The Organizing Committee (OC) of WUC Floorball 2016 kicks off this event with the public presentation held at the Rectory of University of Porto..

With only 19 days to the start of this event, that will be held in University Stadium and Faculty of Sports, from 19 to 24 of July, the Organizing Committee prepared a ceremony that was attended by the Vice President of Porto City Hall, Ms Guilhermina Rego, the Executive Director of Porto Lazer, Mr Rui Alves, the president of Portuguese University Sports Federation (FADU), Mr Daniel Monteiro, the pro-rector of University of Porto, Mr Fernando Remião, and the president of the OC and president of Federação Académica do Porto (FAP), Daniel Freitas.

The University of Porto (UP) and Federação Académica do Porto (FAP) expect to maintain the level of excellence in organizing sporting events. Remember that in 2015, this two institutions in partnership with the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP), earned the prize of “Best WUC 2014”, assigned by the International Federation of University Sports (FISU) corresponding to the best World University Championship 2014 in beach volleyball.

This is the third time that the city of Porto is chosen to be the stage of a WUC. “Today we must do more and better. The University of Porto and FAP have joined forces to launch this sport and organize a world championship”.
Daniel Monteiro, share the opinion that the goals are "reaching further and boost the creation and practice of a new sport in our country”.

Ten countries, nine men's teams and seven women. Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Japan and South Korea are the teams that will be present in this competition.

The reception to the teams starts on July 18 and the opening ceremony is scheduled for the 19th, at 18h00, at Avenida dos Aliados.
